If you’ve come across our page and want to know more about how Madelyn’s Fund was started and what we aim to do as an organization, this post is for you!

It all began when founders Rachel and Andy Lee welcomed their third child, a beautiful daughter named Madelyn Elizabeth, into their family. She spent time in the NICU due to delivery complications and fought an infection, as well. The Lees were faced with an earth-shaking tragedy when their daughter passed away at only eight days old.

They realized that many NICU families incur unexpected costs, including daily travel to visit their NICU babies and sometimes funeral expenses, but not all of them are able to cover these costs. In November of 2016, they launched Madelyn’s Fund in an effort to provide these families with the financial support that they so desperately need. Though Andy’s NFL career has taken them all over the country, they were passionate about serving the community of their permanent home: Charlotte, NC and providing support to NICU families throughout the Carolinas.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated as a part of Giving Tuesday. We were blown away by your generosity, and we were able to surpass our goal and raise $2,850! This means we will be able to bless Baby B’s family for the holidays and provide ongoing support to other families like theirs. You’re making a difference - thank you!

Giving Tuesday is here!! Join us in supporting sweet Baby B (pictured here) and his family at the link in our bio. Born premature with ventricular septal defect (VSD) and Down Syndrome, he continues to need respiratory support due to low oxygen levels, despite having had a heart repair. This special baby may need another heart surgery.

On top of that, Baby B’s family is experiencing the financial hardship of spending four months in the NICU. They also live hours away and recently lost their car.

B’s mother says, “It has been very challenging having B at a hospital away from home. I came with B to Levine's on Sep 24 and stayed for a few weeks with him. B's dad was unable to come with me as he had to stay at home to work and stay with B's twin brother and older sister. Due to our financial situation, I had to get a job as a housekeeper at a motel. I have not been able to visit B since I left in the middle of October. I have been working a lot and taking care of my son and daughter. I had planned to try to come visit B, however our only car ended up catching fire and is totaled so I have no transportation to get there. For now, I call and speak with B's medical team daily and my sister (who lives an hour from Levine’s) visits each week.”
